VM1: SearXNG Configuration

SearXNG acts as the search index scraper. It is configured to run locally on port 8080 and only output JSON format securely.

Configuration Template (settings.yml)​

The settings located in settings.yml enforce:

  • JSON Format Enabled: Explicitly allows Hono backend core queries.
  • Workers and Threads: Capped at 2 workers and 4 threads to avoid resource exhaustion under 1GB RAM.
  • SafeSearch Support: Configures parameters for content filtering.

Security Warning​

[!WARNING] Do NOT expose VM1 port 8080 to the public internet. Ensure the firewall blocks incoming external connections, allowing access only from the VM4 Backend Tailscale IP.

Compose Setup​

Start the container from the vm1-searxng directory:

docker compose up -d
