VM2: Vane Answering Engine

Vane Slim acts as the AI answering engine brain, running as a containerized Node service.

Compose Setup​

The service runs the official itzcrazykns1337/vane:slim-latest image and exposes port 3000.

Start the container from the vm2-vane directory:

docker compose up -d

Environment Variables​

Ensure you configure the .env file in the vm2-vane folder with the following variables:

  • SEARXNG_API_URL: The URL of the SearXNG instance (e.g., http://<VM1_IP>:8080).
  • GROQ_API_KEY: API key for Groq Cloud.
  • GEMINI_API_KEY: API key for Google Gemini.

Verification​

The service includes a built-in health check using curl to verify availability. You can verify it by curling port 3000:

curl -f http://localhost:3000/
